Burning River 100
Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run web site (2006)

Application: WordPress
Web Site

As the race director for the new Burning River 100 Mile Endurance Run it became necessary to develop a web site to publish information about the event, including course maps, local area lodging information, course pictures and registration information. The site also includes results from the initial race in 2007 and photographs taken during the race weekend (most of which were published through the photo sharing site PicasaWeb).

Testing Site

As the race director and webmaster of the Burning River 100 web site I worked closely with one of our committee members to plan and test his recently developed system for publishing (near-)real-time coverage of the event on the web. Split times will be recorded at aid stations and reported to communications headquarters in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio where they will be entered into a database which will be continually published to web allowing for family, friends and other interested parties to get regular race updates on the Internet. Though not directly involved with the development of the tool I provided recommendations and performed testing.

Summit County Historical Society

Summit County Historical Society web site (2004)
Application: Dreamweaver
Web Site (see binder)

As a primary activity for my field experience, I redesigned the web site of the Summit County Historical Society to better meet the organization's needs of informing the public. The site replaced one with minimal features and outdated information. While the site's appearance was greatly improved, the accompanying documentation and training will allow the organization's employees to keep information current. (See Field Experience binder for screen shots.)

Technology Leadership: reviewed organization's web hosting services and replaced with Grassroots.org to reduce costs.

St. Michaels School Angel Auction

Angel Auction online auction site(2006)
Application: EBay
Web Site

I volunteered for my daughters' school fundraiser, the annual Angel Auction held in the Spring semester, to put several auction items online for the 2007 event. Because many of the items (including a Nintendo Wii) would be valuable to bidders outside of the local area, I recommended that the items use EBay which is the largest online auction marketplace and waives placement fees for nonprofits through its Giving Works program. I also purchased the domain name "angelauction.org" and redirected it to the school's auction page for improved branding.
